Psychodynamics
Developed as a simpler and shorter alternative to psychoanalysis, psychodynamic therapy aims to address the foundation and formation of psychological processes in order to alleviate symptoms and improve people’s lives.
Psychodynamic therapies depend upon a theory of inner conflict, wherein repressed behaviours and emotions surface into the patient’s consciousness; generally, one’s conflict is subconscious.
Some key concepts in psychodynamics are:
- Recurring patterns of behaviours
- Defence Mechanisms
- Denials
- Repressions
- Unconscious thoughts
- Subjective experiences
